Bat Survey 2022

This year we benefitted from good bat weather and some wonderful new recruits to our group. On our first survey (4.7.2022) we encountered 2 Serotines, 1 Noctule (unsure), 46 common Pipistrelles, and 57 Soprano Pipistrelles. Our second outing, on the 17th of July, yielded 3 Noctules, 9 Serotines, 32 Common Pipistrelles and 38 Sopranos.

At least 619 volunteers took part in the National Bat Monitoring survey this year, returning data for summer surveys (Roost Count, Field Survey and Waterway Survey). These core surveys enable us to monitor how our bat species are faring across the UK. We have produced survey and species distribution summary maps which you can view here.

We are already looking forward to next year’s survey in July 2023. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Stephanie.
